ABOUT ABOUT

Please visit the Mavericks Track Club website for more details regarding the venue, sponsors and donors, raffles and prizes, and the non-profit we are working with.

The Mavericks Track Club is thrilled to announce that its club kick-off event will be none other than a 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials Watch Party! The event will take place on Saturday, February 29th from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm and will be hosted by Federal Hill Pizza located in Providence, RI. Coverage of the races, which will be broadcast live on NBC, will begin at 12:03 pm for the men and 12:13 pm for the women.

This event is open to everyone and anyone interested in watching America’s best marathoners battle it out over 26.2 hilly Atlanta miles for a spot on the start line at the 2020 Olympic Marathon in Tokyo. Come meet fellow running-enthusiasts (and potential future running-buddies!) and enjoy being surrounded by other people who understand and appreciate the heartbreak and beauty that is the marathon. Cheer with them when your dark-horse pick moves into that coveted third-position, lament with them when your favorite athlete begins falling off the pack, and complain with them when the broadcast goes to commercial at the exact moment that a big move is being made.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be reserved online. Drinks, appetizers, and entrees will be available for purchase throughout the event. There will be a plethora of running gear, gadgets, and goodies up for grabs as part of our “Things runners love” raffle. Items will be raffled off both individually and as baskets and will include items such as free race entries to local races, running shoes, gift cards to local and online running retailers, and more. Those looking to really geek-out on running can test their knowledge by taking part in our marathon trivia and race prediction contest which will award prizes to the winners.

The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the local non-profit organization, Girls on the Run Rhode Island. GOTRRI utilizes running as part of their mission to help young girls recognize their inner strength and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. Half of all proceeds from this event will be donated to GOTRRI to help them to provide financial support to girls in need. Additionally, we will be collecting NEW socks to be distributed to girls in the GOTRRI program.

Given that competitive running occupies a rather small niche in the athletic world, it’s not often that we get to see our sport and its star athletes on the national stage. With a huge contingent of New Englanders set to compete, and two Rhode Island-based women going in as legitimate contenders – 2X Olympian and national record holder, Molly Huddle, and her training partner, multiple-time NCAA and USATF Champion, Emily Sisson – this is an event all New England runners won’t want to miss!
